A small hotel near Formentor, Mallorca

The Hotel La Moraleja seems like a well-guarded secret, tucked away in the beautiful Cala San Vicente on the rugged northern tip of Mallorca, just around the corner from the famous Formentor peninsula where the enormous cliffs drop shear into the blue Mediterranean Sea.

The hotel has 17 rooms in total, most of them classed as Demi Suites which have generous sitting areas and large terraces overlooking the impressive views.

Relaxation and serenity come as standard (there will be no small children running around) in a garden and terrace with two swimming pools, one with heating to extend the season into May and October. Parts of these ample terraces can be not just your sun-bathing area but your breakfast room or your dining room too, and for a snack or refreshment in between there is the bar-café. Finally there is a recently-opened spa centre with jacuzzi, massage room and sauna, offering various therapy treatments.

When you go indoors, the luxury continues unabated with broad hallways and an elegant lounge. There and throughout the hotel there is a large collection of artworks on display, all originals by celebrated French and Spanish artists. If that’s not enough, there is also a separate display of classic sportcars from the 50s to the 70s, picked from the owner’s private collection.

Although it’s hard to tire of the beauties of the hotel and Cala San Vicente, there is plenty more to visit and explore close by. The northern extremity of the island is amazing, while a short drive down the north-west coast offers mountains, coastline and seascapes in abundance. For a pleasingly quiet way to while away an evening in town, Pollensa is right nearby and finally the long sandy beaches of Pollensa and Alcudia are another short hop further on.

Restaurant:

The hotel provides breakfast and snack lunches. For dinner, there is the Restaurante Voramar just 25m from the hotel, or many others in the nearby vicinity.
