A small luxury hotel in Palma

Convent de la Missió is tucked away in Palma's old quarter, right next door to the church of the same name. Surrounded by tiny cobbled streets and plant-hung patios, it was originally a place for the training of missionary priests, but today is a little hotel of exceptional sophistication and style.

Following three years of careful restoration by the owners, the hotel opened it's doors at the beginning of 2003. The result is a masterpiece of design, with carefully preserved 17th century ecclesiastical architecture blending elegantly with modern minimalism. Every detail is just right, in the form, the materials, the furnishings and the decoration.

The 14 guest rooms are havens of calm, utilising neutral colours, fine muslin and smooth oak floors. All are spacious, and most especially the suites. The public spaces are even more special, the original high vaulted ceilings and limestone walls combine with cutting edge design, natural materials and large windows to show a masterful use of light and space. Up on the roof, the solarium brings a zen-like peace while down in the old crypt there is a spa with jacuzzi, sauna and hammam. The art gallery features exhibitions of paintings, sculpture, photography and ceramics.

Beyond the four walls of the hotel, the historic sites and bars and boutiques of Palma are right on the doorstep and the international marina is just a short walk away. Yet this is the old town, with minimal traffic, so nothing can break the silence of the Convent de la Missio (except the occasional church bell!).

Restaurant:

New for 2009, the restaurant has been re-styled and placed under the direction of the renowned chef Marc Fosh, so that it is now known as "Simply Fosh". Consisting of a dining room and a terrace with waterfall and palm trees, the decoration is simple yet sophisticated. It is open all year round for lunch and dinner, except Sundays. As well as the extensive a la carte, it offers set menus and an excellent wine list so that diners may enjoy excellent cuisine at reasonable prices..

The design quality of this hotel is exceptional, as you might expect from a hotel owned by two architects. The mixture of old and new is very cleverly done. This hotel places you right at the heart of the city where you can enjoy fashionable shopping, stylish bars, cafes and restaurants, and all the sights of a historic city. Yet being in the old town which is virtually pedestrianised, it is also a quiet environment.
